DIY Guide, Replacing Transmission Filter on Your Van
It is a 4L60 Transmission before a lot of the electronics. The pan gasket was leaking and I did not have any history on the filter being replaced. Therefore, I thought it was time to give the ole girl some attention. Again, thanks all for your support!

It's worth taking it apart. There is a groove than runs the full length of the shaft that also goes around the shaft. This groove becomes clogged over time. Th purpose of the groove is to pull oil up on the shaft for lubrication. It can be cleaned using a dental pick and solvent. This process shown here will help a little but will not clean out the groove.

Good tip. If one has the time and the expertise then a through cleaning is the way to go. I have a spare distributor so I decided to let the clean engine oil go to work on this one.

Very nice video, going to try to change mine tmw, do Have to pull the plug on your Inertia switch, to reduce pressure in the line. I have a no start 87 f150 I hear both pumps priming from each gas tank. I Half power to the inertia switch, That's telling me that my fuel pump relay, it's good. I replaced the fuel regulator it started stalled, started stalled now just cranks. Last time the fuel filter was changed. It was a little over 3 years ago. Get LOTS of rags. The fuel will want to drop down on you so be VERY CAREFUL. This is not a repair to take lightly. Wear safety goggles and gloves that gas will not melt. I did fight fuel issues on mine and the fix was to put some reman fuel injectors in. Thanks!

The reservoir cap does not have a hole in it. The cap is solid and just snaps over the reservoir. I have seen a cap with a hole drilled in it on a diesel engine I was looking at some time ago. It was a way to relieve pressure that was being pushed into the cooling system. I did not buy the vehicle.

I've considered having mine done even though the manual says it isn't necessary with regular use. I only hesitate because of how doing a change can cause issues later if you go too long on the current fluid without changing it. Mine currently has just over 98,000 miles on it. How many miles were on the fluid in your HHR?

Probably 300000. The original owner all but drove it into the ground. If you are looking for more information. I suggest calling a dealership and asking them how often they recommend a fluid change on a 2.4l or 2.2l engine. Thanks.
